Hedvig Sommerfeldt is the artist and designer behind HedSom Jewelry. She is a metal- and jewelryartist and obtained her Master Degree from KHiO – Oslo National Academy of the Arts. In 2015, two of her objects (in pure gold and oxidized silver) were acquired by the National Museum of Norway.
Hedvig has specialized in a hammer-technique called hollowware-technique. In this technique, the hammering is central, and the focus is to build a volume from a flat metal sheet. The final volume of this process has the appearance of an egg. It is a time-consuming process, in which one almost gets to a meditative state of mind. It is also very physical work. Hedvig sees her jewelry as fragments of this egg- shape.
Given Hedvig`s background, her fascination for the physical aspect may not be all that surprising. On top of her arts background, she used to be an elite-level athlete in athletics and is a former Norwegian champion in triple jump.
